Course description from the teacher’s perspective

As a professor in the Gap Year Program, I often tell my students: this year isn’t just about learning Spanish—it’s about living it. Imagine waking up in Madrid, starting your day with a café con leche, and stepping into a vibrant and dynamic city full of opportunities.

In class, we focus on making Spanish practical for your daily life. You’ll learn how to confidently introduce yourself, navigate the city, and chat with locals. One day you might role-play ordering tapas, and the next, you’ll actually do it in a bustling bar in La Latina. Seeing students communicate effortlessly is incredibly rewarding.

Afternoons and evenings bring new adventures—exploring Retiro Park, visiting El Prado, or joining a flamenco class. Every moment in Madrid is a chance to immerse yourself in the language and culture.

This gap year is about more than activities—it’s about the connections you’ll make. You’ll build lifelong friendships with classmates from around the world over shared meals, weekend trips, and late-night conversations. By the end, Madrid won’t just be a city you visited—it will feel like home.

With a perfect balance of language learning, cultural immersion, and personal growth, this year isn’t a pause—it’s a leap into new opportunities, perspectives, and memories you’ll cherish forever. I can’t wait to guide you on this incredible journey.

FAQS

What is included in the enrollment fee? (General)

The one-off enrollment fee includes:
• First textbook and all required learning materials
• Welcome tapas and drinks
• Level assessment (outside of class time)
• Course attendance certificate

How long does it take to complete a level?

With the Intensive (and Long Term) Course schedule, it usually takes between 10 and 12 weeks to complete a level, such as A1 or A2.
That said, it is important to note that students’ progress depends on their learning style, aptitude for languages, and the time and effort they are willing to put into learning and practicing.
It can also be influenced by their native language and the other languages they speak. If your objective is to learn as much as possible in a defined period of time, it’s important you dive deep into your Spanish studies: spend time revising class content, complete your homework, practice with natives outside class, listen to Spanish music, watch Spanish movies, read Spanish books and magazines, and watch yourself improve rapidly!

Can AIL help me get my student visa?

As an Instituto Cervantes accredited Spanish school, we are authorized to issue letters of acceptance for full time students, which are recognized as official proof of study by Spanish consulates and embassies. Once your enrollment is confirmed, we will send you your letter along with other documents required to start your visa process.
